![]() The vitreous is in the middle of the eye with the other structures that allow you to see the world located around it. To get its round shape, your eye is filled with a gel-like fluid called vitreous. However, eye floaters are located inside your eye. You may rub your eyes or remove your contact lenses to try to get rid of the dust-like particles. When you have eye floaters, they can often appear to be in front of your eye or right on the surface. What parts of the eye are affected by eye floaters? ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s no one way you might see floaters and your description of floaters might sound completely different than another person. The way you think a floater looks is guided somewhat by your own creativity. Some people see spiders, medusas, amoebas or clouds. There are many ways to describe eye floaters. If you suddenly have more floaters than normal or are experiencing flashes (bursts of light across your field of vision), you should reach out to your eye care provider right away. It’s important to remember that as the vitreous shrinks over time, it can create floaters. Retinal tears are another condition that can be caused by the shrinking of the vitreous. In this condition, the shrinking and pulling away of the vitreous (called posterior vitreous detachment) causes the retina to detach. Sometimes, they can be a sign of a more serious eye condition called retinal detachment. Floaters can get less pronounced, but they are permanent and stay in eye. Sometimes this is mistaken with them going away completely. They can be annoying at first, but over time you won’t notice they’re there anymore. In most cases, you don’t need to treat floaters. As they move, they pass in front of your macula (the center of the retina), which allows you to see them.įloaters are very common and, for many people, are a part of the natural aging process. Floaters slowly drift through the vitreous. As you age, the vitreous starts to shrink within your eye, creating these small particles. Eye floaters are solidified parts of a gel-like substance within the middle of your eye called your vitreous or vitreous humor. When this happens, you are experiencing eye floaters. When you look somewhere else, these shapes move with you. You try to blink them away, but they’re still there. They’re not quite clear - almost like little bits of dust stuck on a camera lens. If you do choose the refund route, all you need to do is shoot us an e-mail to with your Amazon order ID number and we’ll take care of it.There are times when you’re looking at the sky or a blank wall and notice little shapes floating in front of you. We understand that this might be getting too time consuming and we’d like to offer you a refund. Are you using Lenovo’s drivers or are you using ATI issued drivers? In some instances you need to get the latest ones, and in others you need to go one step back. We’ve found that sometimes those problems are caused by an incompatibility between the DisplayLink drivers and the main graphics cards drivers. You could try updating to the latest ATI drivers (or even an older, but at least a different driver version) and see if that solves the problem, but unfortunately we cannot offer any guarantees that it will. It doesn’t sound like a hardware problem, more like a software/driver problem. For example, if i have a video playing on youtube or vlc, when things settle, the video resumes playing. Also, I dont actually stop the videos for things to settle. When things settle, the monitors are in the same setup as before but all windows are relocated to the main monitor. and it blinks a few times and settles so that all windows are only on the laptop monitor. The best way i can describe what this looks like is that it is like when you have dual monitors on the laptop and you unplug the external monitor to take you laptop to class etc. I will then have to drag them back to where i had them before. Then all windows will relocate to the main monitor and stay there (not all will be maximized, some will be half way off the screen). However, after a few of these blinks, all monitors will go black and be unusable for about 3 or 4 seconds. It doesnt happen uniformly every time but when the monitor with the adapter flashes, it just goes black for about a second and returns to its original state. I also recently had the screens blink when no video was playing which leads me to think that videos just make it happen more frequently but do not completely cause it. When i play VLC and all screens blink ( and windows relocate), once the monitors settle, VLC resumes playing the video.

Scientists previously were able to craft an explanation for the cause of another enigmatic phenomenon - hugely energetic explosions called gamma-ray bursts - as originating from the death of massive stars, merging neutron stars and magnetars. They said repeating bursts may be a trait of younger FRBs, perhaps dissipating over time.ĭiscoveries like the newly described FRB may help scientists determine the cause of these radio bursts. The astronomers suspect that the newly described FRB is a “newborn,” still enveloped by dense material blown into space by a supernova explosion that left behind a neutron star. These active repeaters are also young, as they have to be seen not long after the birthing event,” Li said. Our work favors active repeaters being born out of an extreme explosive event such as a supernova. “The abundance of models reflects our lack of understanding of FRBs. Li noted that numerous hypotheses have been offered to try to explain these bursts. The new one closely resembles another discovered in 2016 that was the first FRB whose location was pinpointed. In other words, it always remains “on.” Most of the roughly 500 known FRBs do not repeat. The newly described FRB is a repeating one that also features a persistent but weaker radio emission between bursts. Some sources of FRBs have been found to emit multiple bursts in what look like storms of activity, but others have only been seen to burst once.” “The burst blinks on and off in about a millisecond, far faster than the blink of an eye. “Fast radio bursts are intense, brief flashes of radio light that are powerful enough to be seen from across the universe,” added Caltech astronomer and study co-author Casey Law. “We still call fast radio bursts a cosmic mystery and rightfully so,” said astrophysicist Di Li of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, the FAST chief scientist and co-author of the research published in the journal Nature. It was studied further using the VLA telescope in New Mexico. The FRB was first spotted in 2019 using the FAST telescope in China’s Guizhou province, the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope, which possesses a signal-receiving area equal to 30 football fields. This galaxy’s collective star mass is roughly one-2,500th that of our Milky Way. A light year is the distance light travels in a year - 5.9 trillion miles (9.5 trillion km). Researchers on Wednesday said they have detected a fast radio burst, or FRB, originating from a dwarf galaxy located nearly 3 billion light-years from Earth. These might include: a neutron star, the compact collapsed core of a massive star that exploded as a supernova at the end of its life cycle a magnetar, a type of neutron star with an ultra-strong magnetic field and a black hole messily eating a neighboring star. al calls for placing an array of light sen sors above the ocean floor at a depth. And it may further empower third-party proxy advisory firms, who advise shareholders on how to vote on an array of corporate matters, and who have already been criticized as having too much sway. (BlackRock said clients accounting for $452 billion in assets used the program as of Sept. Still, it is unclear whether shareholders will more broadly make use of this new ability. Giving shareholders more say may force companies to adopt more politics-style campaigns, which would most likely be expensive, to reach a more expansive base of voting investors. “Those of us who lead public companies will have a broader set of shareholders with whom to engage,” Fink wrote in his letter. That could pose new challenges for corporate America. Charles Schwab and Vanguard said recently that they were exploring similar programs. Giving investors more say over their holdings is one way to address a major criticism of giant money managers: that they hold too much sway over publicly traded companies by virtue of their huge share holdings. BlackRock is also expected to extend the option to clients in some British mutual funds for next year’s voting season. The firm said that Voting Choice was now open to investors representing $1.8 trillion of its $3.8 trillion in index funds. BlackRock aims to give them a voice through Voting Choice, an initiative it announced last year to give institutional investors and some individual ones options for voting at annual shareholder meetings. “The next generation of investors will increasingly demand to be heard,” Fink wrote. For its part, BlackRock will expand a program that lets investors in its funds choose how they vote in corporate elections, in a recognition that shareholders “don’t want to sit on the sidelines.”īut even Fink concedes that giving investors more say could make the business of running a publicly traded company messier than ever, especially when he says voting “should be as easy to do so as it is to buy a mutual fund or E.T.F. In a letter to clients of BlackRock, the $8 trillion money manager that he runs, Fink wrote that a “revolution in shareholder democracy” was growing. BlackRock backs more “shareholder democracy”Īs investors push for a bigger say in how companies tackle a variety of issues - including supporting or opposing environmentally and socially minded goals - Larry Fink wants to give them even more of a voice in the boardroom. ![]() ![]() If you choose "Custom Alarm" and Sound Recognition identifies the sound as an appliance or doorbell, your custom sound will still end up in the "Household" section of the sounds list. You can also skip the Settings app altogether by using the Sound Recognition control in Control Center, which I explain in Step 4 below. If it's off, tap the toggle to switch Sound Recognition on. To set up Sound Recognition on iOS 16, head to Settings –> Accessibility –> Sound Recognition (in the Hearing section). Step 1: Enable Sound Recognition on Your iPhone And it's an absolute game changer if you have unique sounds such as special security alarms, a quirky doorbell chime, Alexa notifications on an Echo smart speaker, and so on. While the feature is built for deaf people and those hard of hearing, everyone should enable it when listening to audio via connected headphones, earbuds, earphones, or headsets. If you wear an Apple Watch, you'll even receive alerts there and not just on your iPhone. More importantly, it works when you're wearing headphones that would otherwise make it easy to miss important sounds in your vicinity. Your iPhone can detect these sounds and issue alerts for you when your iPhone is locked. And you can use it to help identify your baby crying in the next room or over a baby monitor, tell you when your oven timer is up, or let you know when your tea kettle is whistling. It's also capable of detecting car horns, doorbells, and door knocks for when you have a special delivery you need to sign for, like a new MacBook or hot meal. When enabled, your iPhone can recognize a set of predefined sounds, including life-saving sirens, fire alarms, and smoke alarms. Two additional sounds were implemented on iOS 15, and iOS 16 opened up the possibilities with custom sound detection. It was introduced on iOS 14 with 13 recognizable sounds available, and it has only gotten better since. Sound Recognition, the feature in question, leverages Apple's Sound Analysis framework and on-device intelligence to listen for and identify specific sounds in your environment using your iPhone's default microphones. Imagine being able to identify crucial sounds even when you're not paying attention - sounds that could alert you to danger, help you take care of your loved ones, or simply make your life easier. ![]() A large number of iPhone users don't even know about it, especially since it's disabled by default and hidden deep in the system settings.
